LAHORE:
The consul of the United States Lahore Kristin K Hawkins has said that Pakistan and the United States share a long and lasting relationship, with cooperation expanding between sectors, including agriculture, commerce, education and cultural preservation.
In an exclusive interview with Express newsHawkins declared that agricultural experts in both countries are working together to address the agricultural challenges facing southern Punjab and the United States. He added that bilateral programs in areas such as trade and agriculture can even more strengthen mutual support.
“Our approach is to provide modern educational opportunities to Pakistan’s youth,” said Hawkins. He highlighted the success of the English Access Micro-Cholarship Program, launched in 2004, which has benefited more than 27,000 Pakistani students, including 6,000 Punjab.

“These students are contributing to a safer and more prosperous future for both nations,” he said. In the last two years, the program has expanded, reaching more than 1,000 new students in Punjab, with 400 cities students throughout the southern Punjab.
In response to a question about cultural initiatives, Hawkins said that the United States has supported almost 35 cultural preservation projects in Pakistan under the ambassadors fund for cultural preservation (AFCP). Notable efforts include the conservation of historical reference points such as Ghanta Ghar de fine and local sanctuaries.
He also mentioned the 19 Lincoln corners establishment in Pakistan to provide students access to modern technology, including 3D printing, digital libraries and research magazines, which offer access to more than 40,000 academic articles.

These centers also provide guidance on higher education opportunities in the United States, while promoting cultural technology and exchange.
“In South Punjab, Lincoln’s corners have established themselves at Bahauddin Zakariya University in fine and the University of Education in Vehari,” he said.
Hawkins reiterated the commitment of the United States to promote educational and cultural cooperation, particularly for the empowerment of young people in unattended regions.
