More than two weeks after President Donald Trump took over the White House, there has not yet been formal contact between Pakistan and the new administration. Official sources told the Express PAkGazette on Tuesday that the two countries had been in contact through usual diplomatic channels, but that there had been no direct contact with the Trump administration. The lack of direct contact shows that Pakistan is no longer a priority for the new Trump administration. Pakistan was once known as the most ally ally in the United States and regular interactions between the two capitals were routine. However, in recent years, things have changed to the extent that the new president of the United States does not even talk to Pakistani leaders. The trend was established by former President Joe Biden, who during his four -year mandate never spoke with any of the paquistani prime ministers. His secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, never traveled to Islamabad despite visiting the region. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif quickly congratulated President Trump for his inauguration. Prime Minister Shehbaz even wrote a letter to Trump, expressing Pakistan’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Similarly, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar congratulated his American counterpart Marco Rubio. But the new administration has not yet responded to any of the courtesies extended by Pakistani leaders. Trump administration officials have not yet made any explicit statement about Pakistan, but certain decisions made by the president of the United States have implications for the country. Pakistan was among the countries affected by the executive order of President Trump who was looking for a pause in foreign aid. With the exception of Israel and Egypt, the Trump administration suspended foreign aid programs to carry out a review to determine if these funds were aligned with the United States foreign policy agenda. Pakistan expected the pause to be temporary and that the United States will soon resume the USAID programs. The other Trump decision that has a direct relationship with Pakistan was his executive order to stop the Afghan refugee settlement program. The new US administration suspended the special immigration visa program and the Afghan refugee admission program for 90 days. Pakistan is currently organizing approximately 25,000 Afghas, which were going to be relocated in the United States. All these Afghan worked for the US army and other American contractors during their campaign in Afghanistan. Visas of us were promised since their lives were in danger under the Taliban domain. The spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, for the first time, last week revealed that under the agreement reached with the Biden administration, the process of relocation of all these Afghan had to be completed in September 2025.
