COAS calls Egypt “a brother country” and says cooperation will help achieve peace and stability in the region.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir is on an official visit to Egypt with the aim of strengthening military cooperation and defense collaboration between the two countries, the army’s media wing said on Thursday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir met with Egyptian Minister of Defense and Defense Production General Abdul Maged Saqar and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi.
The statement added that the discussions focused on “matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and bilateral defense cooperation.”
Field Marshal Munir described Egypt as “a brotherly country” and added that “cooperation between both states will not only benefit the people of both nations but will also contribute to achieving peace and stability in the region.”
At the Ministry of Defense, the Pakistani army chief was welcomed with a guard of honor and then laid wreaths at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and the tomb of former Egyptian president Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat. As part of his engagements, Field Marshal Munir also met Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, at Mahaikhat Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the statement added.
The Grand Imam shared his views on the challenges facing the Muslim world, while the Pakistani army chief emphasized the need to counter “extremist ideologies and twisted interpretations of Islam.” The visit underlines Pakistan’s growing diplomatic and defense ties with Egypt, which have expanded through high-level exchanges and training cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.
