On Monday a significant progress occurred when Pakistaní and Afghan Jirgas reached a mutual agreement on a high permanent fire and the reopening of Torkham’s border.
The discussions, which took place at a joint meeting, resulted in an understanding of temporarily stopping the controversial construction activities on the Afghan side of the border.
Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, leader of the Pakistani jirga, highlighted the importance of the meeting, describing it to infuse tensions between the two countries.
He confirmed that both parties have agreed to suspend the construction construction by the Afghan forces, waiting for additional consultations with the Afghan authorities.
The ongoing construction problem will be addressed at the next joint meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, where a final decision on the matter will be made. Meanwhile, trade routes across Torkham will remain open, ensuring uninterrupted cross -border trade.
The exact date for the joint chamber session will be determined by mutual consultations, setting an important step to solve the long -standing problem. This agreement follows weeks of high tensions and confrontations near the border.
