Pakistan has restored access to X throughout the country after a 15 -month prohibition.
Restored on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the authorities blocked access to the popular social media platform in February 2024. The blockade forced citizens to resort to the best VPN service to continue accessing the application.

“The metrics show access to X (previously Twitter) has been restored in Pakistan,” confirmed Internet surveillance networks on Wednesday.
The Pakistan authorities began to block the popular social media platform on February 17, 2024. The block came a week after completely restricting the Internet before and during the day of the elections as an alleged “security measure.”
However, according to Netblocks, “the platform was restricted by the authorities in February 2024 after it was used to attract attention to cases of alleged electoral fraud.”
In addition, while large -scale interruptions to the Internet connection lasted only a few days, the prohibition of X persisted for almost 15 months.
Now, people in Pakistan can finally access X without connecting to a virtual private network (VPN) to falsify their real location of the IP address.

However, X has not been the only victim of Pakistan Internet censors.
The tastes of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and even Bluesky have also briefly restricted in the past. While all these platforms are now accessible without a VPN, Netblocks confirmed to Techradar that Telegram is still blocked in the country at the time of writing.
What is certain is that VPN services remain a crucial tool for Pakistani.
According to Access Now data, in fact, Pakistan imposed 21 stops in 2024. This is the highest number for the country.
Recent reports also suggest that China is helping Pakistan to build a large Internet censorship system similar to a Firewall. This project is expected to increase considerably the blockage and surveillance capabilities of the authorities.
At the same time, a new category of licenses for VPN suppliers was presented in December as the last offer to regulate the use of Pakistan VPN.
