Pakistan, India Exchange lists of prisoners in biannual exchange

  • Pakistan seeks access to detainees with physical and mental conditions.

Islamabad: Pakistan and India exchanged Monday lists of prisoners held under the custody of the other, in line with the 2008 agreement on consular access, which requires the exchange of said information twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Pakistan delivered a list of Indian Indian or Creyeros Indian, including 53 civilians and 193 fishermen, to a representative of the High Indian Commission in Islamabad.

At the same time, India provided a list of 463 Pakistani or believed prisoners to the Pakistani, who comprise 382 civilians and 81 fishermen, to a diplomat of the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi.

Pakistan has requested the immediate liberation and repatriation of all Pakistani citizens who have completed their sentences and whose nationality has been verified.

Islamabad also requested special consular access for all believed prisoners of the Pakistani, including those with physical or mental health conditions, to accelerate the confirmation of their national status.

In his communication, Pakistan also urged India to grant consular access to all prisoners who were still waiting for him, and to guarantee the safety and well -being of all Pakistani detainees in Indian custody.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to prioritize humanitarian issues and affirmed its continuous efforts to ensure the early return of all Pakistani prisoners in Indian prisons.
