Pakistan and Iran have agreed to establish an objective of $ 8 billion in annual bilateral trade, with the aim of improving economic cooperation and regional connectivity.
The development occurred during a meeting between the Federal Minister of Commerce of Pakistan, Jam Kamal Khan, and the Minister of Industry, Mine and Iranian commerce, Mohammad Atabak, in Islamabad.
Both parties agreed to give a new direction to bilateral trade and accelerate the rhythm of cooperation.
Kamal declared that it is time to accelerate commercial ties with Iran and transform geographical proximity into an economic advantage.
The ministers also emphasized the importance of improving cross-border cooperation and agreed to accelerate the next session of the Joint Economic Commission of Pakistan-Iran.
The two parties welcomed the growing confidence between the Pakistani and Iranian commercial communities and launched a new series of B2B meetings for greater collaboration.
The ministers discussed cooperation in agriculture, energy, livestock, logistics and IT services, and highlighted the need to better use border facilities and commercial corridors.
Kamal described Pakistan’s friendship as a symbol of trade, culture and brotherhood, added that economic cooperation is essential to strengthen fraternal relations.
Atabak said that nearby ties between the two countries could contribute stability to the region.
Yesterday, Iranian President, Dr. Masoud fishshkian, arrived in Pakistan in a two -day state visit to hold bilateral conversations with Pakistani leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Vice Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and the Minister of Information and Broading Attaullah Tarar received the Iranian President and his delegation at the Nur Khan Air Base.
Dr. Pezeshkian is accompanied by a high -level delegation, including Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi, the upper ministers and other high -ranking officials.
Dr. Pezeshkian will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and will also hold conversations at the delegation level with Pakistani Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers.
Defense ministers
The honorable Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran, General of Brig Aziz Nasir-Zadeh, held a bilateral meeting with the honorable defense minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both parties discussed matters of mutual interest, including regional security, anti -terrorism efforts and roads to improve defense cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Previously, Pakistan had taken a lot of strict measures to control the smuggling of basic products, including Iran’s oil supplies, which led to an increase of up to 340% in legal trade.
Although the government has entered into action to stop the smuggling of Iranian oil, the national oil industry states that illegal trade has begun to increase again, which caused concerns among market actors.
