Fingerprint issues for online passport applicants resolved with new verification system

The Department of Passports has launched a new online verification system that resolves technical issues that previously affected fingerprint verification of passport applicants online.

Applicants will now be able to verify their fingerprints through NADRA’s Pak ID app. If fingerprint verification fails, a face verification option will also be available.

According to Director General of Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi, overseas Pakistanis had reported frequent problems with online biometric verification. With this new facility, overseas Pakistanis and senior citizens are expected to benefit the most.

DG Passports added that all possible modern facilities are being introduced for the convenience of citizens and said the upgrade is part of a broader shift towards digitalization to make passport services more accessible to the public.

How Overseas Pakistanis Can Check Their Fingerprints Online

Foreign applicants using the DGIP online passport system are now required to complete biometric verification through the NADRA Pak-ID mobile application. The department says the new system is designed to eliminate recurring verification errors.

Here’s how the new process works:

  1. Start the online passport application on the DGIP Electronic Services portal and observe the Passport Tracking ID shown in the biometric stage.

  2. Open the Package ID mobile app and select Online passport.

  3. Enter your CNIC number and Tracking ID to link the request.

  4. Capture and send fingerprints using the app’s camera-based tool.

  5. If fingerprints cannot be captured, the face verification You can use the option instead.

  6. Once verified in the application, the DGIP portal automatically updates the biometric status, allowing the applicant to complete payment and shipment.
