Pakistan and Maldives agreed on Wednesday to promote parliamentary cooperation and strengthen people’s contacts during a meeting between the president of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and the president of Maldive, Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Sadiq said that parliamentary diplomacy was vital to promote peace and development in the region.
He stressed that sustainable peace could not be achieved without solving the problems of Palestine and Kashmir, urging the Muslim Ummah to adopt a joint strategy to support oppressed people.

In addition, he warned that the Nexus of Israel-India represented a “serious threat” for regional and global peace.
Abdul Raheem Abdulla praised the “clear and consistent” position of Pakistan on the issues of Palestine and Kashmir and reaffirmed the commitment of the Maldives to expand legislative and institutional cooperation with Islamabad.
The Maldivia delegation is currently in a five -day visit to Pakistan for the invitation of the Sadiq speaker. The program includes meetings with political leaders, interactions with the Pakistan-Maldive parliamentary friendship group and visits to historical and cultural milestones in Islamabad.
The visit is expected to open new ways for regional collaboration while strengthening interparliamentary ties and explores cooperation in commerce, education, tourism, climate change resistance and promotion of stability in the region.
