Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency have formalized a new cooperation agreement, the country program framework (CPF) 2026-31, aimed at advancing in nuclear science and nuclear technology for socio -economic development.
The president of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, and the Deputy Director of the OIEA and head of the Hua Liu Technical Cooperation Department were the signatories of the agreement signed on Wednesday.
The CPF will guide technical cooperation between Pakistan and OIEA, focusing on several priority sectors. These include food and agriculture; human health and nutrition; climate change and water resources management; nuclear power; and nuclear radiation and safety.

Dr. Anwar said the agreement reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. With the help of the OIEA, he said, Pakistan will continue to use modern technologies to advance areas such as food security, health, energy and environmental protection.
Founded in 1957, Pakistan has been a Member State of the OIEA for decades. The new CPF will serve as a framework to plan and deploy nuclear technology resources and transfers aligned with national development objectives.
