UNITED NATIONS:
Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, Equifikhar Ahmad, organized a largely reception to mark the end of Pakistan’s presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July.
The heads of diplomatic missions accredited before the United Nations, high UN officials, prominent citizens and main journalists attended the event held on Thursday.
The former UN ambassador of Pakistan, Munir Akram, also attended the reception.
The ambassador to Iphtikhar thanked his counterparts and invited to attend reception and cooperation during the presidency of the Pakistan Council.
He also thanked former Akram ambassador, a well -known figure at the UN, for his presence at the meeting.
During its presidency, in addition to other articles on the agenda, Pakistan organized two exclusive events: a high -level open debate on “promoting international peace and security through multilateralism and the peaceful solution of disputes.” At the end of the debate, the Council of 15 members unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Pakistan that asked the Member States to take measures for the effective implementation of the resolutions of the Council for the Pacific Agreement of Disputes.
The other event of the firm was a high -level informative session of the Security Council that focused on improving cooperation between the UN and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) after which a presidential statement was issued.
Pakistan also presided over the quarterly open debate of the Council on the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.”
The high -level events were chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar.
Pakistan began his current two -year term as a non -permanent member in January 2025 and will serve until the end of 2026.
