Pakistan has dismissed India’s request to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to review the Islamabad financial support program, qualifying it from a politically motivated movement in the midst of high regional tensions after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk).
An advisor to the Ministry of Finance of Pakistan confirmed Friday that the rescue of the IMF of $ 7 billion from the country, secured last year, is still “well on the way” and critic for macroeconomic stability.
Islamabad also received additional $ 1.3 billion in climate resilience funds in March 2025.
“This program is not only stabilizing Pakistan, it is a confidence construction,” said financial advisor Khurram Schehzad. “The last review of the IMF was without problems, and our meetings with global financial institutions in Washington reflected a high interest of investors.”
The movement of India at pressure, the IMF occurs when the two nuclear weapons neighbors impose reciprocal suspensions to treaties, diplomatic exchanges and access to airspace, deepening hostilities after New Delhi blamed Pakistan for the attack of the pahalgama without presenting evidence.
Islamabad has strongly rejected the accusations and has requested an impartial international investigation.
The authorities argue that India’s attempt to involve the IMF is an extension of his political campaign to isolate Pakistan diplomatically.
Neither the Ministry of Finance of India nor the IMF have publicly responded to Pakistan’s concerns.
The confrontation has caused a global alarm, with the vice president of the United States, JD Vance, urging both countries to avoid military escalation and cooperate to address terrorism.
Pakistan argues that his commitment to the counterterrorism is long data and recognized worldwide.
