Pakistan submits extradition requests for Shehzad Akbar and Adil Raja to the United Kingdom


No country can allow its citizens to defame the State and its institutions from abroad, says Naqvi.

The Government of Pakistan has submitted extradition documents for Shehzad Akbar and Adil Raja to the British High Commission, requesting their immediate return. “These people are wanted in Pakistan and must be handed over without delay,” said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Shehzad Akbar, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member and advisor to now jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Adil Raja is a YouTuber and former Pakistan army officer, retired major, who has been accused by the state of anti-state propaganda.

Federal Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday held an important meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during which both sides discussed Pakistan-UK relations, security cooperation and issues of mutual interest.

The Ministry of the Interior, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has started the extradition process. Naqvi welcomed British cooperation in the return of those spreading propaganda against Pakistan.

The Home Minister also presented strong evidence against Pakistani nationals involved in propaganda abroad. “I fully support freedom of expression, but fake news is a problem for all countries,” he said. “No country can allow its citizens to defame or defame the State and its institutions from abroad,” he added.

Federal Secretary Home Affairs Muhammad Khurram Agha and other relevant officials were also present in the meeting.
