Pakistan to attend Moscow’s format conversations about Afghanistan


Muhammad Sadiq Khan, special representative of Pakistan in Afghanistan and also Prime Minister’s special assistant (SAPM) and the Minister of State, left for Moscow on Sunday to participate in high -level discussions over Afghanistan.

Representatives of Iran, China and Russia will participate in the quadrilatric consultation. Sadiq will lead the Pakistan delegation in the 17th “Moscow format” in Afghanistan, starting tomorrow (Tuesday). The session is expected to cover security, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking prevention and Afghan refugees problems.

According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan will require the international community to increase humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.

The joint opposition of the four countries will be repeated against the establishment of any foreign military base in Afghanistan.

Pakistan will raise the issue of terrorists who find safe shelters on Afghan soil and there will be a demand to end recruitment, arms supply and the financing of Afghanistan terrorists.

For the first time, Afghanistan will formally welcome as a member country in this format and is expected to attend the Interim Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The Moscow format on Afghanistan was created in April 2017. It unites 11 countries that have expressed interest in an agreement in Afghanistan: Afghanistan, Russia, China, Iran, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Tayikistan, Kirgyzstán, Uzbequistan and Turkmenist.
