According to the reports, the Airport Authority of Pakistan (PAA) approved the construction of two new international airports in Sukkur and Muzaffrabad, with a work in both projects that are completed within five years.
The PAA has formed a committee to supervise the acquisition of land for the new sites, the sources said. Preliminary work has already begun under the supervision of the PAA Works and Development Department.
The sources said that the 2 billion rupees aim to expand regional connectivity and strengthen the country’s aviation infrastructure. Technical consultants and external experts will be committed to support design and construction phases.
The Sukkur International Airport is expected to serve the Upper Sindh region, while Muzampharabad International Airport will improve air access to Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Both airports are seen as key infrastructure investments by the federal government.
The announcement follows a recent order from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to carry out a feasibility study for an additional international airport in Mirpur. The study was promoted by a letter from British members of Parliament aimed at prime minister.
