Pakistan on Thursday asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to go beyond the mere condemnation of Israeli attacks aimed at Hamas negotiators and hold Israel for their “illegal and unpaved aggression” against Qatar.
Speaking at the emergency meeting of the Council of 15 members in the Middle East, the ambassador to Iphtikhar Ahmad, the permanent representative of Pakistan before the UN, also emphasized the importance of protecting the mediators involved in the peace efforts and reaffirming the centrality of international law and the UN letter in the defense of global peace and security.
The meeting was requested by Pakistan, Algeria and Somalia. It took place under the leadership of South Korea, the president of the Council for the month of September.
“Pakistan condemns, in the stronger terms possible, the illegal Israeli aggression and not caused against the fraternal state of Qatar,” said the Pakistani envoy, qualifying it as “reckless and provocative attack” on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.
The ambassador said that Israeli attacks went to a residential neighborhood, deliberately putting civilians, in a serious violation of international humanitarian law (IHL). He added that this “shameless and illegal assault” was not an isolated event, but part of a broader and more consistent pattern of Israeli aggression and violations of international law that threaten regional peace and stability.
“Such acts of aggression, as defined by resolution 3314 of the UNGA, also establish a dangerous precedent, erode the primacy of the rule of law and generates a culture of impunity that threatens the safety of all states.”
Pakistan, he said, expresses his total solidarity with the government and the people of Qatar and fully supports his inalienable right to take all the necessary measures, according to the UN Letter, to defend his sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of all people within their territory.
“In a gesture of solidarity and regional unity, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by a high -level delegation, including the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs, will visit Qatar today,” said ambassador Ahmad to the delegates.
“The visit underlines Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar’s security and sovereignty and his commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.”
He added: “This irresponsible action of Israel is another manifestation of its systematic contempt for international law, and its blatant destabilization policy of the region. It adds to its long and doubtful record of aggression, brutal military actions in Gaza, Gaza, Repks Strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Iran and and every year of the rapes of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations of the violations Violations and IHLL.
