Pakistan, Uzbekistan agrees to boost trade, sign multiple mous

Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed multiple agreements on Wednesday aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense, technology, technical training and empowerment of young people.

The agreements were signed during the two -day visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Uzbekistan, by invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Both countries also agreed to work to expand bilateral trade to $ 2 billion.

After his bilateral meeting and talks at the delegation level, Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Mirziyoyev witnesses of the signing of several documents. These included agreements and mous in several sectors.

An intergovernmental agreement was also signed between the two countries to collaborate in scientific research, technology and innovation. The Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, and the Vice Prime Minister of Uzbek, Khodjayev Jamshid, exchanged the relevant documents.

In addition, the Minister of Information and Transmission of Attaullah Tarar and the general director of the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan, Kuchimov Abdusaid, exchanged an agreement on the cooperation of news between the news agencies of the two countries.

DPM ISHAQ Dar and the mayor of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov Buranovich, signed a Mou between Lahore and Tashkent.

A MOU was also exchanged between the youth program of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Uzbekistan government in youth matters, with the Minister of Information and Baddade of Ataulah Tarar and director of the Youth Affairs Agency of Uzbekistan Sa’dullayev Alisher exchanging the documents .

Speaking at a joint press conference, President Mirziyoyev welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz and highlighted the importance of agreements.

He said that the two nations would work together to overcome the challenges and unlock new economic opportunities.

The Uzbeko leader emphasized that the commercial volume would be expanded and described direct flights between Tashkent and Lahore as mutually beneficial.

He also noted that the main Pakistani commercial figures were in Uzbekistan to explore investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Uzbeko’s government for his hospitality and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen economic and strategic ties.

He called Uzbekistan a “reliable partner” and invited Uzbeke investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said his government had stabilized Pakistan’s economy, reducing inflation from 38% to 2.4%, and that policy reforms increased investor confidence.

He also stressed the importance of regional connectivity, including trade through rail networks and joint efforts in the mineral and tourist sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also asked the interim government of Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used against Pakistan, emphasizing that regional peace and stability are of collective interest.

The prime minister stressed the importance of peace in Afghanistan, urging Kabul to take concrete measures to avoid threats of cross -border security.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received an honor guard in Tashkent when he arrived at the center of Congress to meet President Uzbeko Shavkat Mirziyev for high -level discussions.
