Pakistan welcomes first shipment of US crude oil, setting record in energy sector

Pakistan’s energy sector marked a historic milestone on Wednesday with the arrival of the country’s largest American oil tanker, the MT Pegasus, at the Cnergyico oil terminal in Balochistan.

The ship, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, is the first shipment of US crude oil to dock at a Pakistani port. The import marks the formal start of crude oil trade between Pakistan and the United States following a bilateral trade agreement.

According to Cnergyico, the MT Pegasus departed Houston on September 14 and docked today at the company’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) offshore terminal. The company described the event as a milestone in the country’s energy landscape, underlining Pakistan’s growing engagement in global crude oil markets.

Cnergyico, which previously set a record in 2017 for handling the country’s largest crude oil vessel, has announced plans for a second cargo arrival in mid-November and a third shipment in 2026.

With this latest development, Cnergyico has become the first Pakistani company to import American crude oil, marking what industry observers see as a new chapter in trade relations between Pakistan and the United States.
