Patti Smith has just written a tribute to Pope Francis.

The very respected religious figure died in his residence in the Vatican, Rome, Italy at the age of 88, due to poor health.

Sharing an image of a lion tooth that grows from a crack in the pavement, the poet, keeping faithful to the work he does, wrote a poem for the leader of the Catholic Church.

“This is a small flower, a humble but strong lion tooth. I saw him this morning and they moved me. Goodbye Dear Pope Francis. Nature and poetry and the suffering will miss his champion,” Smith wrote.
