PayPal cryptocurrency payments
“Using PayPal’s open platform, the business can accept cryptography for payments, increase its profit margins, pay lower transaction rates, reach instant access to income,” said PayPal CEO, Alex Chriss.
The funds held as Pyusd, Stablecoin backed by USB of PayPal, earn 4% per year.
From the launch, PayPal will charge an introductory rate of 0.99%, valid for the first year. From then on, transactions will incur a 1.5% rate, however, this could end up being up to 90% cheaper than some international credit card rates.
The news comes a week after the company launched PayPal World, a platform designed to support international payments with early support, including five leading wallets in the world of the United States, China, India and Mexico.
“By enabling cross -border cryptographic payments without problems, we are breaking long -standing barriers in global trade,” Chriss added.
Paying with Crypto will begin to be implemented with US merchants in the coming weeks.
PayPal is not the only payment gateway that supports cryptographic payments, with the rival company confirming in June 2025 that would accept the USDC, a stablcoin backed by dollar, through Shopify.
Highlighting the scale of the opportunity, Stripe emphasized that $ 94 billion in Stablecoin payments were resolved worldwide in the two years prior to their announcement.
