Islamabad:
The Permanent Committee of the Planning and Development Senate ordered the Planning Commission on Thursday to eliminate the Kalabagh dam from documents and presentations on the proposal for project construction.
The Committee met here with its president Quratul Ain Marri in the President, to discuss several development projects, water resources, state of dams and water problems of Karachi. The president questioned the proposal for the construction of the Kalabagh dam, saying that three assemblies had opposed it.
The committee was informed that 15% of the work of the Bhasha Diamer dam and 57.77% of the K-4 project had been completed. The committee emphasized the need to conserve water resources and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The meeting also discussed progress in Gomal Zam and Darawat dams. The theme of the new channels was also discussed. The Secretary of Water Resources told the meeting that water from the Jhelum River would be taken and deviated to Cholistan from Salmaniki Head Works.
In the water crisis in Karachi, the meeting reported that the work in the provincial part of the K-4 project to provide water to the citizens of Karachi will be completed in April 2027. The Committee asked to guarantee the timely completion of the projects.
