Despite the apparent resurgence of the PC market in recent months, analysts are increasingly concerned about the future as global trends and geopolitical problems continue to affect the industry.
Responding to recent tariffs on Chinese imports imposed by the US, IDC has adjusted its prognosis and reduced market growth to only 3.7%.

Separately, Cáceys saw that the market recovered some of its seasonal trends while growing 3.9% for the entire 2024 calendar.
Analysts predict that the PCs of AI could represent up to 35% of the market in 2025, compared to 23% in the last three months of 2024.
The Canalys analyst, Kieren Jessop, agrees with IDC: “The imminent commercial policy changes in the United States threatens to interrupt the market that represents around one in three pc sent and could hinder the next commercial cycle of update and cushion a consumer perspective already silenced.”
Jessop added: “Until now, the Trump administration has placed a 10% tariff over all Chinese imports, which represents a significant majority of laptops sent to the United States.”
IDC is also concerned about the general market of consumption PC, which grew only 2% in 2024. The company described migration to Windows 11 as “modest”: the flagship operating system only represents about 37% of all Windows facilities (through Statcounter), compared to 60% for Windows 10.
Looking beyond the 2025 calendar, IDC is predicting annual growth rates of less than 1% to 2029. It is predicted that the annual growth rate composed by 2025-2029 will average only 0.4%.
