PDMA forecasts the next monsoon rain spell in punjab


The Provincial Disaster Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has predicted the next monsorship spell of August 13 and issued a flood warning.

According to a PDMA spokesman, notices have been issued for the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum rivers, as well as currents and adjacent nullahs, warning of potential floods due to the rains.

The PDMA warned that water levels in the main rivers through Punjab could increase during the seventh spell of monsoon.

The commissioners, the attached commissioners and the relevant departments throughout the province have received instructions to remain alert.

The departments placed on maximum alert include local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock and transport.

The general director of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, ordered all the departments to complete the preparations in advance with the instructions of the Punjab Prime Minister.

He said that emergency control rooms must remain 24 hours a day and rescue the 1122 disaster response equipment must also remain on a maximum alert.

The authorities have received instructions to keep the public updated on the situation, guarantee the evacuation of houses and cattle from the river beds and encourage compliance with the security measures issued.

Appealing to the public, the DG advised to swim in rivers, channels, streams and ponds, and urged cooperation with the authorities in case of emergency evacuation.

Citizens have been told to communicate with PDMA’s 1129 line line in case of emergencies.
