The Provincial Authority for Disaster Management (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a flood warning since the Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD) has forecast the continuous wet climate in different areas of the province.
In its weather warning, the provincial agency said that the downpours are likely to swell local currents and rivers today, with the risk of floods in districts such as Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan and Abbottabad. It is likely that persistent rain causes landslides in mountainous areas, threatening the access of the road and cutting remote communities, he added.
He pointed out that low parts of Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan can also face urban floods.
The PDMA has warned that strong winds and strong showers could damage mud houses and fragile structures such as mud houses, walls, electricity posts, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.
Local administrations, police and rescue services have been placed on maximum alert, while the public and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary trips, stay away from the banks and stay updated to avoid any setback.
In its weather forecast, the PMD also warned of strong generalized rains that could trigger sudden floods and landslides in various parts of the country during the next 24 hours.
According to the forecast, strong downpours can cause floods in local currents and rivers through Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan.
Heavy showers are also expected in Murree, the Galliyat region.
In its weather forecast for other parts of the country, the weather office said that strong downpours is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the northeast of Punjab, Kashmir and Dera Ghazi Khan, increasing the risk of overvaluing seasonal river paths.
The national forecast has warned that the low areas in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan can also face the progress.
The weather office said that the northeast of Punjab could see particularly intense showers, while the southern Punjab, the northeast of Baluchistan and the southeast of Sindh can also receive rain with thunder during the night and night.
In Punjab, the provincial PDMA has expressed concerns about the increase in water levels in the Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Jhelum rivers.
The authority warned that floods are possible in the districts of the North and Northeast, with the Sutlej already flowing at a high level near Ganda Singh Wala and is expected to remain elevated for at least 48 hours.
Rescue equipment has been deployed in sensitive areas, while ads are made in the mosques and through local authorities to alert communities at risk.
People who communicate with the PDMA 1129 line have been advised in case of emergencies.
According to the notice, the rivers, including the Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Jhelum, could experience medium to high flood levels, with the risk of sudden floods in the northern and northeast districts.
Instructions have been issued to ensure that there are all emergency agreements, with rescue units already implemented in vulnerable areas.
