If you’ve ever wondered if that jacket you’re looking at will actually fit you, Perplexity now has an answer. It just launched a new virtual try-on feature as part of its new shopping tools that creates a digital twin from your photos and shows you wearing real clothes sourced from online stores.
Forget about ordering clothes online only to discover that they don’t fit you. Now you can give them a virtual spin first.
Google offers a similar feature from its own shopping AI wallet, but I decided to see how Perplexity compares because it looks like it could be much more useful to you if you’re shopping for clothes today.

To make my virtual model, I uploaded a selfie to Perplexity. He used it as a head and then offered to put my head on a generic body that didn’t match my real physique.
The other option was to upload a photo of my entire body to use. Once I found a suitable image and uploaded it, Perplexity created a digital avatar in my shape.
After that, it was simply a matter of searching for different clothing items I was looking for using the Shopping tab. For example, a winter coat. There, I could click on a potential purchase and see the “Try” button appear.
Clicking on it, in less than a minute a photo of my avatar wearing it appeared, taking into account posture, body shape, and how the fabric might cover my limbs. I was impressed.
The closet of perplexity
I found the testing tool to be pretty good at reimagining myself with different outfits, but only one piece at a time. A full suit never offered the trial button, although some interesting jackets did work.
Even limiting myself to individual pieces didn’t mean that everything I looked for was usable for a digital proof. The costume pieces never seemed to produce the button.
As an additional experiment, I had Perplexity use just my head and its generic body for one of the tests. It was a good selling point for the full body shot.
Google’s approach is arguably more flexible and successful in terms of handling disguises and full suits. But Google takes much longer than Perplexity to complete its fashion show.
If you just want a quick assessment of what you might look like in, say, a shirt with a dazzlingly bright pattern of rainbow zig-zags, Perplexity has you covered and will hopefully save you from spending an even more eye-popping price on it.
Please note that to use the Try feature in Perplexity you will need to be a Pro Member, and that costs $20 a month.
my verdict
In all, Perplexity’s testing tool is fast, surprisingly accurate, and really useful if you’re looking for individual items. It still can’t match Google’s ability to preview entire outfits, but if speed matters more than fancy lookbooks, Perplexity wins. Just be prepared to pay for the privilege.
