- Perplexity has added the generation of images from AI to its platform
- The images are produced using the Operai model, which was recently launched for chatgpt
- Perplexity also caused the O3-mini and XAI Grok-3 models to be available
The perplexity of the AI conversational search engine can now add some images of AI to your answer. And if those images are very similar to what Chatgpt would do, well, it is because they use the same model.
If it is not convinced, the left image was generated using perplexity, while the one on the right was created by Chatgpt, both with the same notice. It is like a ghost writer of AI, but for fantasy landscapes with dragons instead of a legal thriller sold at an airport.
Perpleplexity silently added the function to its web platform this week, offering three generations of images per day for free users and unlimited generations for Perplexity Pro users. It is quite simple to use it.
As with Chatgpt, you just have to ask the AI to “generate an image of” something or use a similar language to configure the notice.
Do not worry if you do not have the model (officially GPT-4.1) chosen from the list of model options, either; Perplexity will use it automatically to produce the visual. That is likely because none of the other models make an image about perplexity at this time.
You can generate perplexity images now. The user interface is beautiful and fun. We have also added support for Grok 3 and O4-MINI for models selection options (which already admits Gemini 2.5 Pro, Claude 3.7, Perplexity Sonar, GPT-4.1, Deepseek R1 1776), and looking for support O3 as … pic.twitter.com/rx6l98PF2GApril 25, 2025

However, that was not the only addition to the perplexity skills announced by the company. The IA wizard added a couple of other models to his stable.
The XAI Grok 3 model is now one of the options for the perplexity of using questions, while Openai’s O4-mini model is now one of the “Reasoning” model options.
All this is adjusted with the approach of perxity to its AI platform. Instead of trying to build everything from scratch, the company is healing models and weaving them on its platform to rationalize access.
It is an intelligent play, especially considering how many people may want to try an AI tool, but they are not willing to commit to only one of the many. Most people just want to ask an intelligent machine a question, get a clear answer, maybe seeing a great image of a flying whale while they do, and move on with their lives.
The addition of the chatgpt image generator is a good touch of color for the AI search engine. It is likely to be especially popular once you join the voice assistant in the perplexity mobile application.
