The outstanding Democrat and former Secretary of Transportation of the United States, Pete Buttigieg, intervened in the debate on the transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
During an interview with NPR, Buttigieg recognized “equity problems” in the debate.
“Around sports, … I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious equity problems if this is only as it doesn’t matter when a trans athlete wants to compete in women’s sports,” said Buttigieg.

Then, the Democrat agreed that the parents who have complained about Trans athletes competing against their daughters “have a case.” However, Buttigieg also argued that politicians should not dictate a policy to determine if men can compete in women’s sports.
“And that is why I think these decisions should be in the hands of sports leagues and school and non -political together … in Washington trying to use this as a political pawn,” Buttigieg said.
How the transgender in sports changed the 2024 elections and lit a national counterculture
“Chess is different from weightlifting, and weightlifting is different from volleyball and high school is different from the Olympic Games. So, that’s why I think we should not be great in this as politicians. We should be training communities, organizations and schools to make the right decisions.”
The Democrats, including former President Joe Biden, have advocated policy changes that would allow Trans athletes to compete in women’s and girls sports. Biden approved an executive order on his first day in office in January 2021 that said that “children should be able to learn without worrying about accessing the bathroom, costumes or school sports.”
Democrats in Congress also tried to approve the declaration of transgender rights and the Equality Law, which would have allowed Trans athletes to compete in girls and women’s sports.
President Donald Trump signed the executive order to “keep men outside women’s sports” on February 5, and 27 states have approved their own laws to guarantee similar restrictions.
Buttigieg joins several other prominent democrats and experts in the media that have been spoken against allowing men to compete with women, including the governor of California Gavin Newsom; Rep. Seth Moulon, D-Mass.; and the host of HBO Bill Maher.
An April report by The New York Times states that Biden did not agree with trans athletes who participated in women’s sports and girls.
“According to several former Biden administration officials, there was a slow debate within the administration about whether these protections of title IX should extend to sports,” said the Times. “One side … he said there was no legal difference between allowing trans students to use baths that align with their gender identity and let the trans -athlete students play in sports teams that align with their gender identity.”
However, Biden was “on the other side … who believed that the competitive nature of sports made them different from the bathrooms, that some transgender athletes would enjoy unjust physical advantages over women. The most important thing, one of the officials who held this view was Biden himself.”
TO New York Times/Ipsos Survey He discovered that the vast majority of Americans, including most Democrats, do not believe that transgender athletes are allowed to compete in women’s sports.

“Thought in Transgender female athletes – That is, athletes who were men at birth but currently identify as women, do you think they should or may not be able to compete in women’s sports? “Asked the survey.
Of the 2,128 people who participated, 79% said that biological men who identify as women should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports.
Of the 1,025 people who identified themselves as Democrats or inclined Democrats, 67% said that transgender athletes should not be able to compete with women.
Other data suggest that the problem affected the result of the 2024 elections.
TO national output survey Directed by the Committee for Legislative Action for Women for America (CWA) in question, it found that 70% of moderate voters saw the issue of “Donald Trump’s opposition to transgender children and men who interpret sports of girls and women and transgender boys and men who used baths of girls and women” as is important for them.
And 6% said it was the most important issue of all, while 44% said it was “very important.”
