Peugeot chose the paradise of the 24 h oil tankers from Le Mans to reveal his long-awaited E-208 GTI model, who says he will offer a performance to “lead the class” and introduce the DNA of some of the most memorable GTI records that have presented it.
The elements of the motor train to borrow from the Abarth 600E model of the Fiat 600E brand, owned by Stellantis, the next E-208 GTI will deliver 280 HP of its M4+ electric motor that is mounted on the front wheels, which is enough to make the sprint 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds.
The maximum speed will be limited to 112 mph, while the 54KWH battery offers a bit of 217 miles. That does not reach the recently launched Renault 5 e-tech and a long way as something like the Born Vz coupra, which manages a claimed 366 miles of its 79kwh battery.
The load is also relatively slow, with 20-80%higher, which takes 30 minutes from a 100KW load output … the maximum rate it can handle from a quick CC charger.
That said, Peugeot says that he uses optimized thermal management and energy recovery that helps to obtain most of the battery life when conducting as a hooligan.
The designers clearly placed the original Peugeot 205 GTI on the front and in the center when designing the last electrical offer, since it transports the work of bright brightly recognizable repainted, the red carpets and the safety belts inside, as well as the redesigned front seats that have integrated replacements and, evaluated it, many red flashes.
Outside, the Standard E-208 has been reinforced to include arches of the cliffed wheels, shorter blasting, a lower general position and a broader track. Together with the “holes” alloy wheels (another wink to 205 GTI) and subtle spoilers, the part certainly seems.
The French brand says that E-208 GTI was completely designed by the Peugeot Sport team, which regularly goes to resistance races, which introduced a limited sliding differential and modified the braking and chassis to make a more attractive driving experience.
History heavy in the hot hatch
Currently it is not known about the price and the E-208 GTI will be a vehicle only in Europe for now, although the 600E scorpion of reach of the coast range of only £ 40,000 (around $ 54,000/AU $ 84,000), which gives a good indication.
However, the 205 GTI of the 1980s obtained a reputation because it was a pen weight (the 1.6 -liter version inclined the balance to only 848 kg), giving it a power / weight ratio of 142 HP per ton, improving much of the competition of the hot breed of time.
The electric version of Peugeot aims to repeat the story, offering 5.7 kg for horses of force, which according to the French brand is the best power / weight ratio in its segment. Although, those figures have the E-208 GTI tilting the scales at 1.596 kg portlucos, almost double that of 205 original GTI.
It does not move away from weight when it comes to electric vehicles, but it will be interesting to see if Peugeot can inject some of the original 205 GTI features in this modern interpretation.
It is also good to see that the humble hot hatch is still on the agenda in the electric era.
