On Wednesday, the Superior Court of Peshawar (PHC) provided great relief to the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) by stopping the disqualification procedures against the opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and the opposition leader in the Senate Sibli Faraz. The PHC also granted a protective bond to Faraz and Sartaj Gul, who were recently sentenced to 10 years in prison by an anti -terrorism court (ATC) in relation to the cases of disturbances of May 9, 2023. Announcing their verdict reserved on a petition against the disqualification of Faraz and Ayub by the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) on Tuesday, the PH main of disqualification of the ECP. The two -page written order declared that the ECP had not been able to provide petitioners with the opportunity to be heard before disqualifying them. The court ordered that no more measures be taken against Ayub and Faraz until the next hearing, which has been scheduled for August 20. The order also observed that the petitioners had already surrendered to the relevant courts and obtained a protective bond, arguing that their convictions were not yet final. Notes were also issued to the ECP and other relevant parts. In a parallel development, the PHC granted a protective bond to Faraz and Gul until August 11, after its conviction for the ATC in Faisalabad last week. The court ordered both leaders to approach the pertinent superior court to present appeals and prohibit the police from arresting them. The two leaders were among more than 100 PTI figures sentenced to imprison Hassan Nawaz, Rai Murtaza Iqbal, Rai Haider Ali and Ansar Iqbal. The PHC, however, has now temporarily arrested this disqualification process in response to the requests presented by the affected legislators.
