Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will resume direct flights between Dubai and Skardu since Friday (today) offering travelers convenient access to one of the most picturesque and remote northern destinations in Pakistan, APP reported.
The seasonal flight service was formally announced during a ceremony held at the PIA office in Dubai, which was attended by the regional manager of the airline, Sarmad Aizas, and the general consul of Pakistan in Dubai, Hussain Muhammad. The event, which included a ceremony of a cake, also attended members of a foreign tourist group reserved on the inaugural flight.
Speaking on the occasion, the general consul said: “This flight not only facilitates the Pakistani expatriates, but also opens the doors for more than 200 nationalities living in the EAU to discover the intact beauty of Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan.”
Skardu, located about 570 kilometers north of Islamabad, is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, including some of the highest peaks in the world, such as K2, as well as cold deserts and scenic valleys.
The direct flight service reduces the travel time from more than 20 hours by road through the Karakoram road less than three hours per air. The region attracts visitors throughout the year.
The summer season in Gilgit-Baltistan offers a breath of the heat of the Gulf, with temperatures that generally remain below 20 ° C. In winter, the region is transformed by snow, attracting tourists for their only experience in the cold desert safari in the context of snowy peaks.
PIA officials expressed the hope that the route would further promote tourism in the areas of the north of the country and provide greater comfort comfort for Pakistani abroad and international tourists alike.
