PIA stewardess arrested for involvement in smuggling

A flight attendant of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been arrested for smuggling mobile phones into the country. Customs officials at Lahore airport claimed to have found the phones in his possession after he arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi.

According to customs sources, the flight attendant was allegedly carrying dozens of expensive mobile phones on flight PK 264. The phones were found when her luggage was searched upon arrival at Lahore airport.

Customs officials reported that the mobile phones were seized and a disciplinary investigation was launched against the flight attendant. Authorities continue to investigate the matter to determine the scale of the smuggling operation.

Two days earlier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) fired two crew members after an investigation confirmed their involvement in mobile phone theft.

PIA employees identified as Mohammed Mumtaz and Asifa Naaz were dismissed after an investigation found them guilty of mobile phone smuggling, PIA spokesperson said in a statement.
