The 2025 Pittsburgh Pirates season has had a historically unstable beginning.
The pirates began the season with a set of four games against the Miami Marlins and ended with a record of 1-3. The total Win-Loss does not show how difficult those three defeats were.

In each of the three defeats of Pittsburgh, Miami won fashionable. Sunday’s game saw the gardener of the Marlins Griffin Conine tie the game with a solo homer in the seventh entrance, while Derek Hill scored the winning race of the game in a wild release.
The pirates were the first team to lose their first three games through walks since 1924, according to MLB.com, citing the Sports Office of Elias. The last team to do it was the pirates of 1924, who won 90 games that season and then won the World Series in 1925.
“It’s a challenge,” said Pirates manager Derek Shelton. “We have some things to work on.”
The first start of the Paul Skenes Opening Day of the Marlins on Thursday when Nick Forbes tripled to start the ninth entrance. Xavier Edwards was walking intentionally and stole the second base. Kyle Stowers then plug the pinch corridor Javier Sanoja and Miami had their first victory of the season.

On Saturday, Dane Myers led Otto López at the bottom of the 12th entrance. Myers also had a homer and threw Tommy Pham, who was trying to score for the pirates at the top of the twelfth.
The pirates reliever, David Bednar, was attributed two of those losses.
“Block and do little things,” said the veteran gardener of the Pirates, Andrew McCutchen, to the journalists of the message in the locker room. “I will continue hitting that because if you don’t, this is the situation and this is what can happen.
“This is the result when small things do not do well. Execute when you need to run, do the things you should do when you are hitting and we will be fine. But when you don’t do that, it ends 1-3”.
The pirates begin a set of three games with the Rays of Tampa Bay on Monday.

Miami is the first team since 2003 to win its first three games with visits. The Rays were 3-5 to start that season and ended 63-99 under Lou Piniella.
