- The Retro Classics collection is now available in Xbox, PC and TV compatible TVs
- It has arrived through an association between Xbox, Antstream Arcade and Activision
- There are already more than 50 games available, with more than 100 that is expected to arrive eventually
Xbox has been associated with Classic Game Service Antstream Arcade to bring Xbox Game Pass subscribers the new Retro Classics collection.
Microsoft announced the association through an official Xbox Wire publication, which is described as “a collaboration between Xbox and Antstream Arcade, available to play for members of the game worldwide.”
The service is now available and only requires the standard Xbox Game Pass subscription; Ultimate is not necessary. The Retro Classics collection is a separate application, available on Xbox Series X | S, PC, and it can also be transmitted through Samsung and LG Smart Smart TV, Amazon Fire TV devices and target Quest VR headphones.
Initially, the Retro Classics library houses more than 50 Retro Activision games. These include Pitfall, Dragster, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, Enduro And many more. Games also have their own sets of achievements, challenges of the classification table and save state support, not very different from Arcade Antstream service.
“This initiative is a step in our commitment to the preservation of games and backward compatibility, allowing players to experience many timeless games on modern devices,” says Xbox Wire’s publication.
In addition, the Retro Classics collection is ready to expand over time. The publication states that the launch “is just the beginning.” Finally, the service will grow up to more than 100 playable titles. If you do not have cash for some of the best retro game consoles, then this could be a more affordable solution.
It is a quite intelligent way to take advantage of a set of classic games now made available to Microsoft through its purchase of Blizzard Activision, and one that I really did not see coming. The Arcade Antstream service itself is something I personally enjoyed, and it is great to see that a similar service reaches the members of Xbox Game Pass in console and PC.
