Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday urged a stronger coordination between disaster agencies to address the worsening of the flood crisis in Punjab. By chairing an emergency meeting in Islamabad, he expressed a deep concern about the worsening of the flood situation, particularly in the areas of capture of the Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi rivers.
The Prime Minister ordered the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to act quickly on the risks of urban floods in Lahore, Sialkot and Gujrat while maintaining early warnings and help efforts throughout the province.
He also directed the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to improve the effectiveness of flooding and rain alerts and strengthen coordination between agencies to reduce losses.
The president of the NDMA, the GEN INAM Haider gene, Malik informed the prime minister about the ongoing response efforts, including preventive evacuations, safe relocation of vulnerable populations and the distribution of relief supplies. He confirmed that the tents have been delivered to the affected areas in Punjab, with additional essential articles along the way.

In an attempt to guarantee uninterrupted public services, the prime minister ordered the Minister of Communications, Minister of Energy, Secretary Energy and president of the National Highway Authority (NHA) to immediately reach LaHore and coordinate with the provincial government.
Its directives include guaranteeing the continuous energy supply, functional communication networks and the restoration of road access in areas affected by floods.
The prime minister reiterated the federal government’s commitment to support all provinces equally. “Just as the Federation was standing by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during recent floods, the same level of assistance will be extended to Punjab,” he said.
He also emphasized the need for early flood warnings in Sindh and asked public representatives and officials to guarantee timely evacuations and strict monitoring of help efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also ordered the relevant institutions to take all possible measures to protect lives, properties, crops and cattle, particularly in vulnerable districts and tehsils.
During the informative session, the NDMA warned about high -level floods in Chief Marala and Khanki due to the increase in discharge in the Chenab River. A high pressure at the key points of the Ravi River was also reported, particularly in Jastar and Shahdara, as well as in the Sutlej River in Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki. Balloki and Qadirabad pressure levels are being closely monitored.
The president of the NDMA pointed out that the 1122 rescue, the civil defense, the rangers, the PDMA and other agencies are working in close coordination. Army units and police personnel have been mobilized for preventive evacuations in areas at risk.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Awais Leghari, Dr. Musadik Malik, Attaullah Tarar, Ahad Khan Chema and senior officials of the relevant departments. The prime minister is scheduled to visit the vulnerable areas on Thursday, including Narowal, Sialkot regions and floods affected by the Sutlej River in Lahore.

He also praised the armed forces and rescue agencies, saying that they have given a notable example of public service.
“I am sure that, as in the floods of 2010 and 2022, the Pakistani nation will exceed this challenge with resilience and resolution,” said the president. He also advised the Government of Sindh to undertake preventive measures for flood protection.
