PM asks for work issued in the Diamer Bhasha dam

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday stressed the importance of affordable electricity and agricultural growth for the country’s self -sufficient, ordering the interested authorities to accelerate work in the Diamer Bhasha dam by eliminating all bottlenecks.

By chairing a high level meeting on water resources and the construction of the Diamer Bhasha dam, the prime minister said that the development of large -scale water infrastructure was essential to improve storage capacity, guarantee the supply of irrigation and mitigate the impact of floods.

He stressed that national self -sufficiency was closely linked to an effective water management and energy production system, which required appropriate projects such as the Diamer Bhasha dam.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, engineer Amir Muqam, Azam Nazeer Tarar and Moeen Wattoo; Advisor of Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah; Gilgit-Baltistan Gulbar Khan Minister; and other senior officials.

Previously, while heading to a Jirga de la Paz in Peshawar, Pime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s right to each drop of water in line with the Indo Water Treaty, and announced plans to store water in key projects such as Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu dams.

He said that a decision on the issue of water would be made inviting the four provinces for discussions on how to increase water reserves so that India malicious designs are buried.

The tensions between India and Pakistan on the Water Treaty of the Indus intensified after Pahalgam’s attack in Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk) of India.

However, India chose to increase tensions unilaterally suspending the Wag-Attari border crossing. In response, Pakistan hinted to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement.
