PM forms Committee to investigate Port Qasim Land Scandal

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an investigation committee of three members to investigate the alleged irregularities in the lease of valuable lands of the Portesim authority (PQA), after explosive revelations of the Faisal Vawda senator that the land was leased at disposable prices during the current government of the Government.

The Committee will be led by the president of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission, who has been appointed summons, while the director of the IB Sirajuddin Amjad and the director of the FIA, Syed Shahid Hussain, will serve as its members.

The committee has also been assigned a special task to examine PQA’s legal strategy in the search for cancellation of the lease, including efforts to annul the order of stay issued against its revocation.

He will investigate the factors considered by the PQA Board in his decision to reach an extrajudicial agreement with the claimant.

In addition, the consultation panel will review all legal opinions that support the agreement outside the court.

According to the Tor, the Committee will evaluate whether PQA reassess the value of the land before continuing with the agreement and if the prevailing prices of the market were taken into account in the final decision.

The committee will also determine why the supply of liquidation outside the court was not immediately withdrawn when the claimant refused to accept it. In addition, it will identify governance problems that contributed to delays in the process.
