PM intervenes to increase payment, pensions

Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif intervened on Tuesday to alter the budgetary proposal to increase the salaries of government employees by 10% during a cabinet meeting that presided over the approval of the federal budget on Tuesday, Fuentes said.

The cabinet maintained a detailed discussion about several budgetary proposals, including clown and pensions. During the meeting, Shehbaz rejected a proposed 6% salary increase, insisting instead on a 10% increase. Later, the cabinet approved a 10% increase in wages and a 7% increase in pensions.

Previously, the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), a key partner of the coalition, had demanded a substantial increase in salaries. However, the Minister of Finance, Aurengzeb, said that the government was already extending the maximum possible relief to the common man through the budget.

Going to the Cabinet, live on national television, Shehbaz said that all economic indicators were now stable and satisfactory due to the government’s efforts, the sacrifices of people and the contributions of the key interested parties that support the national economy.

“The common man and the salaried class have made sacrifices,” said the prime minister, adding that salaried people asked correctly: they contributed around RS400 billion to the National Treasury in Taxes: How much have they paid to the rich?

He pointed out that in the last five quarters, the county had faced difficult conditions and multiple challenges, emphasizing that directing the nation through them was not a small feat. “Pakistan has reached the take -off point, since all key stability indicators are satisfactory,” he said.
