PESHAWAR:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday promised to extend full cooperation to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government to maintain peace and eliminate terrorism from the province.
Addressing a public meeting in Chitral district, the prime minister congratulated KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on his election and assured him of full cooperation in fighting terrorism and maintaining peace. “I hope you accept my offer and together we work for the development and prosperity of the country,” he said.
The prime minister announced a comprehensive development package for Chitral district, covering education, health and energy sectors.
The projects include construction of a hospital in Upper Chitral, a modern hospital and a university by the federal government, besides the completion of important roads, including the Chitral-Mastung-Shandur highway. He added that access to the Lower Tunnel was also completed.
The Prime Minister further assured the people that the federal government would address the issue of electricity tariffs in the area, while the students of Chitral would be included in the Federal Laptop Scheme.
He recalled that a day earlier he had announced the delivery of 100,000 laptops for young people in Islamabad.
Sharif praised the efforts of the armed forces under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir for foiling India’s nefarious designs recently, while paying tribute to Pakistan Air Force and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu for safeguarding the country’s air borders.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Danish school system in Chitral, spread over 148 kanal of land, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and separate campuses for male and female students.
He said the initiative was part of his vision to provide quality education and modern facilities to the people of remote areas including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.
He added that the school would provide free education along with boarding and accommodation facilities to deserving students.
Terming Chitral as one of the most beautiful areas of KP, the Prime Minister praised the bravery and patriotism of its people and the people of KP, saying their contributions to national development will always be remembered.
