PM restores tribal quota in universities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Thursday that the Federal Government was taking all possible measures for the economic development of the merged districts and the well -being of its people.

I was talking to a delegation of tribal elders of the fused districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa directed by President Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam (JUI-F) MAULANA Fazlur Rehman, who visited Prime Minister’s house.

The Jirga discussed in detail the improvement of public order in the fused districts and the construction and development of these areas.

While welcoming the delegation, the prime minister announced the restoration of the share of the districts merged in medical schools and engineering universities.

The tribal elders welcomed the decision, expressing happiness about the restoration of the quota.

The prime minister said: “I am very happy to house tribal elders in the home of the prime minister today.”

During the conversation with the delegation, he said: “You belong to those areas of Pakistan who are the guardians of the glorious historical heritage and traditions.”

“The tribes have always made immense sacrifices for the security and peace of Pakistan,” he said, he added: “The establishment of law and order in the fused districts is the highest priority of the government.”

He said that the security forces of Pakistan, the Police and the agencies of application of the law were adopting martyrdom while bravely fought against terrorists.

He urged that the leaders of all the schools of thought have to play their role together to make Pakistan a cradle of peace.

“Providing the same and better opportunities for education, health, skills and employment to the people of the fused tribal districts, especially young people, is our priority,” he emphasized.

He said that “the Federal Government has assigned a large amount in this year’s development budget to improve the police infrastructure of the University of Fata and the Police in the fused districts.”

He directed the scope of the Committee established under the presidency of the Federal Minister of Cashmir, Gilgit-Baltist and Engineer of Border Regions Amir Muqam on the issues of the fused districts.

“The tribal elders of the merged districts are also represented in this committee,” he said.

The delegation expressed its gratitude to expand the scope of the committee, representing the tribal elders and the restoration of the quota of districts merged in medical schools and engineering universities.

The delegation paid tribute to the brave strategy of the Pakistan army during the recent Pakistan-India conflict and for giving an adequate response to Indian aggression.

The delegation thanked the prime minister for the consultative session on peace and order, development and prosperity in the fused districts.

The Prime Minister said that more advisory sessions will be held with the tribal elders regarding the improvement of fused tribal districts.

Federal Ministers Including Minister For Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister For Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, Minister For Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Chema, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister For Power Division Sardar Owais Ahmed Leghari, Minister For Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and Frontier Regions Engineer Amir Muqam, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Government Faisal Karim Kundi, advisors of Prime Minister Pervez Khattak, Dr. Tauqir Shah, Minister of Finance and Ferrocarriles Bilal Azhar Kayani and senior government officials attended the meeting.

World Bank

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Thursday with the regional vice president of the World Bank for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (Menaap) Ousmane Done, where they expressed a shared commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the coming years to achieve long -term development goals and build a prosperous future for Pakistan people.

During the meeting, the prime minister especially thanked the president of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, and the former country director of Pakistan Najy Benhassine for his fundamental role in the advance of the New Country Association Framework (CPF) for Pakistan.

He appreciated the strategic role of the CPF in supporting Pakistan’s development priorities, particularly in the areas of energy, human capital, climate change and governance reforms.

He also recognized the support of the World Bank for the legitimate position of Pakistan in the light of the unilateral and illegal actions of India that undermine important international agreements such as the Treaty of the Waters of the Indo.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defend international law, achieve prosperity and maintain regional peace, and reiterated the country’s resolution to solve all problems through dialogue.

The prime minister thanked the World Bank for his timely and generous assistance during the devastating floods of 2022, which helped Pakistan initiate immediate relief efforts and begin reconstruction and rehabilitation activities.

Ousmane Done expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm hospitality extended during his visit to Pakistan.

He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to deepen and expand its long -standing association with Pakistan and improve collaboration in the key sectors of the economy.

Dione appreciated the ongoing macroeconomic recovery of Pakistan and praised the Government of the Prime Minister for directing the country towards financial stability and sustainable growth.

He particularly recommended the current administration reform agenda, pointing out the strong leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the progress of institutional reforms, restoring investors confidence and promoting inclusive economic development.

Arizona State University

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed on Thursday the government’s commitment to revolutionize the educational sector of Pakistan through the integration of avant -garde technology and global associations with the support of the Arizona State University.

During a high -level meeting with a delegation from the Arizona State University (ASS) led by Doug Becker, founder and president of Cintana Education held at the Prime Minister’s office, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed that aligning Pakistan’s educational system with international standards was a priority of the higher government.

The prime minister emphasized the need to modernize education and equip the young people of the country with essential professional skills to compete in global markets.

“All government education policies focus on the creation of employment opportunities for young people based on their professional abilities,” said Prime Minister.

He praised collaboration with Arizona State University as a transformative step, particularly the establishment of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Pakistan. “This association is a significant milestone. NIT will serve as a world -class institution that enables young Pakistani to compete worldwide,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the Government has made key reforms in the National Commission for Vocational and Technical Training (NAVTTC) during the past year, which makes it a more efficient and effective institution.

He directed that NavTTC should now work closely with ASU to bring innovation to the vocational training sector.

The discussions during the meeting focused on the operationalization of the NIT, which will begin this year. Doug Becker assured ASS’s full support to provide resources and facilities to advance innovation in the educational system of Pakistan.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a commemorative plaque that marked the operational launch of the National Institute of Technology.

The meeting was also attended by the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Ahsan IQBAL, Federal Minister of Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister of Ti Shaza Fatima Khawaja and senior officials of relevant institutions.
