Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed La Nación on Saturday after the announcement of a high fire agreement between Pakistan and India, expressing deep gratitude to the people of Pakistan, the armed forces, political leaders and international partners who supported efforts to discourage tensions.
In a televised speech, the prime minister confirmed that Pakistan had responded positively to the proposals of Alto El Fuego “for the good of 230 million Pakistani”, after weeks of military escalation after the attack of April 22 in Pahalgam, illegally occupied Indians Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk), which left 26 dead. India blamed the elements based in Pakistan, an accusation categorically rejected by Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his appreciation for the role of the United States in the anti -vision of Alto El Fuego, personally thanking President Donald Trump “for playing a sincere and constructive role.” He also recognized the contributions of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, the Secretary General of the United Nations and the “other allied countries” involved in the diplomatic effort.
“My brother heir, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, my brother Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, my dear brother Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad, and my nice brother President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, all offered us strength and confidence in a difficult time. I am grateful for the depth of my heart,” said the prime minister.
He gave a special mention to China’s support, thanking President Xi Jinping, his Government and the Chinese people. “China has been in Pakistan without worrying about loss or gain. They have been our true friends for 78 years, and we will always remember this support,” he added.
The prime minister paid tribute to the Armed Forces and greeted mothers of martyred soldiers, stating: “His sacrifices will never be forgotten.” It also extended thanks to the political allies and opposition parties to remain united, including the head of the Nawaz Sharif party and President Asif Ali Zardari, whose advice, he said, had been “invaluable.”
He recognized the role of Pakistani citizens, particularly social networks users, to counteract erroneous information and maintain national unity online. “Our people remained firm in the face of misinformation. I thank each user who became a digital soldier of truth.”
Looking towards the future, the prime minister expressed confidence in the national resolution: “I am sure that our political parties and civil-military leadership will continue working for the good of Pakistan. We will not rest until we have recovered our legitimate place in the world.”
He urged unity, hard work and renewed national ambition. “Let’s work so hard that the world is amazed, as they are now in the courage of our Armed Forces.”
“Zindabad Armed Forces, Pakistan Zindabad,” he concluded.
