Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Lachin, Azerbaijan, Tuesday to attend the Trilateral Summit of Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan.
He was received at Lachin airport by Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Pakistan’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin and other diplomatic officials, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
The Pakistani delegation includes the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information, Attaullah Tarar, and special assistant of Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
Meanwhile, the head of the Army staff, Syed also Munir, conducted high -level conversations on Tuesday with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, head of the general personnel of the Iranian Armed Forces, at the headquarters of the general personnel, while visiting Tehran as part of Pakistan’s efforts to improve regional military cooperation and border security.
The discussions focused on strengthening defense collaboration and refining the border security mechanisms between the two neighboring countries. The visit marks a continuous impulse from both parties to address mutual concerns related to cross -border militancy, smuggling and regional stability.
Earlier this month, in the midst of the growing tensions between Pakistan and India, Azerbaijan expressed his support for Pakistan and solidarity with his government and people.
The Azerbaijan government condemned actions by the Indian Army in a formal letter to Pakistan’s prime minister.
The message, delivered by Azerbaiyan ambassador, Khazar Farhadov, included condolences for those affected by the conflict and the wishes for the recovery of the injured. Azerbaijan also urged both parties to seek a peaceful resolution by diplomatic means.
During the summit, Shehbaz Sharif is expected to join the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the president of Azerbaiyani, Ilham Aliyev, for high -level conversations aimed at strengthening trilateral cooperation.
The prime minister will also hold a bilateral meeting with President Aliyev during his visit.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is on a six -day diplomatic tour of four countries, since Pakistan seeks to strengthen regional associations after recent tensions with India.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the prime minister is conducting broad conversations with the leadership of the four countries. He is also transmitting Pakistan’s appreciation for his support during the recent escalation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Tehran on Monday, where he had conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the historic Palace of Sa’dabad. He also met the supreme leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.
After their conversations, Prime Minister and President Pezeshkian went to a joint appearance of the media. During the informative session, Shehbaz thanked Iran for his support during the recent tensions between Pakistan and India.
He reiterated the support of Pakistan of the right of Iran to follow a peaceful nuclear program, stating: “We are with our Iranian brothers and fully support Iran’s right to a civil nuclear program.”
The prime minister has completed visits to Turkiye and Iran, and will conclude his regional tour in Tayikistan, where he is scheduled to attend the International Glacier Conference from May 29 to 30.
