Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday requested measures to expand the fiscal network, which ordered the interested authorities to take strict measures against people and the sectors involved in tax evasion.
By chairing a review meeting on the extension of the tax base and the increase in tax revenues, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that people and sectors capable of paying taxes must enter the fiscal network.
He also instructed the strict responsibility of the officers and the personnel that helped tax evaders.
The prime minister praised the efforts of the government’s economic team for quickly heading to achieve FBR’s income objectives for the current fiscal year.
He said that expanding the fiscal network was the government’s priority to reduce the tax burden to the common man by reducing his tax rates.
The Premier directed to complete digital cement monitoring and other sectors for next month. In addition, efforts to increase tax revenues in the tobacco sector must accelerate in collaboration with the provinces.
He directed that the pending cases related to taxes should effectively continue to guarantee the recovery of the money of the nation.
“By the grace of Allah, the national economy is stable and moves towards growth,” he said, and requested collective efforts for the development of the country.
During the informative session, participants were told that the complete implementation of the monitoring and trace system in cement plants throughout the country led to a significant increase in billions of rupees in tax revenues. With the implementation of this system in the sugar industry, tax revenues increased by 35% from November 2024 to April 2025.
It was said that the tax revenue objective equivalent to 10.6% of GDP will be reached as a result of FBR reforms.
