Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday has taken measures in response to the flood situation in several low residential areas of Islamabad, which followed recent heavy rains.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office, the Prime Minister addressed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the District Administration to launch urgent rescue operations and guarantee the rapid drainage of rainwater of the affected neighborhoods, particularly close to the drains of rainwater.
Expressing concern about the difficult situation of residents in flood -prone areas, the prime minister also instructed the authorities to implement caution measures to protect vulnerable communities near the currents and nullahs.

He ordered the Department of Health to remain on a maximum alert to avoid the propagation of water transmitted diseases, which can often follow such floods induced by precipitation.
To monitor and administer the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz established a special committee to supervise rescue operations and guarantee the safety and relief of affected citizens. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protect lives and properties during natural disasters, emphasizing the need for a rapid and organized response from all interested agencies.
In a separate development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on the construction of the Jinnah medical complex (JMC), ordering the relevant authorities to ensure that the world standards of medical care are met in their development.
“Jinnah’s medical complex will be a world-class hospital, which provides treatment for patients from the four provinces, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan,” said the prime minister. He emphasized the importance of transparency and merit both in the construction and in the recruitment of the staff for the installation.
The prime minister also requested a validation of third parties of the construction quality to guarantee high standards. He instructed the preparation of a plan to improve primary and secondary medical care systems in Islamabad to reduce pressure on existing tertiary hospitals.
“Jinnah’s medical complex will be built with standard international facilities, and will offer even better services compared to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI),” he said, and added that all related services, including the concierge, must be subcontimated by merit.
During the meeting, the officials informed the Prime Minister about the progress of the conceptual design, the training of the Board, the acquisition of land and the plans for a proposed shopping center adjacent to the hospital. It was reported that the conceptual design, land transfer and the appointments of the Board are about to end, and that geotechnical and social impact studies are underway.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Chema, Syed Mustafa Kamal and Prime Minister’s Health Coordinator, Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, were among those who attended the meeting.
