Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed an investigation committee of three members to investigate the land scandal of the Port Qasim authority (PQA).

Senator Faisal Vawda had claimed that the valuable lands belonging to the Port Qasim authority were leased at undervalued prices during the current government’s possession, said Express News.

According to a notification issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, the land in question was assigned for small and medium industrial parks, and the three members committee will investigate financial irregularities in its lease.

The president of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission has been appointed Coeier of the Committee, while the director of the Intelligence Office (IB) Sirajuddin Amjad and the director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Syed Shahid Hussain, will serve as members.

According to a notification issued by the PM office, the Investigation Committee will examine financial irregularities in the lease of PQA land, which was assigned for small and medium industrial parks.

In addition, it will investigate the factors considered by the PQA Board by deciding an agreement outside the court with the petitioner.

According to the terms of reference (Tor), the Committee will investigate whether the Port Qasim (PQA) authority reassess the value of the land before the agreement and if the current market rates were considered in the decision -making process.

The Committee will also determine why the liquidation offer outside the court was not immediately withdrawn after the petitioner rejected it. In addition, it will identify governance problems that contributed to delays in the resolution process.

The Committee has been authorized to include additional members if necessary to help in the investigation. The Maritime Affairs Ministry will provide secretariat support. The Investigation Committee must submit its report to Prime Minister within two weeks.

It is noteworthy that the land scandal of the Port Qasim authority arose during a meeting of the Permanent Senate Committee on maritime matters, after the revelations made by Senator Faisal Vawda.
