PM Shehbaz orders action against deposits in Ramadan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered strict monitoring of food prices and market regulations during Ramadan, warning that no deposit must escape the punishment while guaranteeing that no innocent merchant is unfairly directed.

By chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the prime minister reviewed the performance of the committee that supervises the supply of essential products at reduced prices. He praised the Committee and the administration of Islamabad for its efforts to control inflation and guarantee affordable food supplies.

“We are committed to providing maximum relief to the public during Ramadan,” said Shehbaz, ordering federal ministers and public representatives to regularly visit Ramadan bazaars, fair price stores and other markets designated to supervise the implementation of price control measures. He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring to ensure that citizens receive essential products at fair rates.

During the informative session, the officials informed the Prime Minister that 16 facilitation positions, five bazaars of Ramadán, 18 fair price stores and other relief measures had established themselves in Islamabad. Articles such as cooking oil, eggs, legumes, sugar and corral birds were sold at lower speeds than the market.

To counteract the hoarding and benefit, the authorities have carried out 4,915 inspections since the beginning of the Ramadan, resulting in 785 arrests and fines that amount to RS728,000. The authorities said that an online application was being used to monitor the performance of the price magistrates, while Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal had established eight locations in the capital to provide free IFTAR meals to disadvantaged citizens.

The federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Talal Chaudhry and other senior officials attended the meeting.
