Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to accelerate the process of privatization of government departments, ensuring their completion within the designated period.
The directive was issued during a review meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, where the task management system to monitor the privatization process was discussed, Pakistan radio reported.
The prime minister emphasized that the process must be carried out with full transparency and that any legal obstacle must be addressed by involving good reputation lawyers. “Good reputation lawyers must be hired to eliminate legal obstacles in the privatization process,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz added that the privatization initiative is part of the “Uraan Pakistan” program of the government, stressing that the government’s role is to facilitate business and investment, instead of participating directly in commercial operations.
“Government’s work is not doing business, but taking political measures and facilitating business and investment,” he said.
In addition, he pointed out that the country is quickly progressing towards economic improvement thanks to the appropriate reforms and requested collective efforts to advance Pakistan’s development.
During the meeting, the prime minister was informed about the Pivatization Task Management System and was informed about the timeline for the privatization of several government departments.
The privatization process has been divided into three phases: ten departments will be privatized in the first phase, thirteen in the second and the remaining departments in the third phase.
