Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. António Guterres, apart from the UN General Assembly session in New York on September 26.
The meeting was described as “warm and cordial”, with Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterating Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing the central role of the United Nations (UN) to address the most urgent challenges in the world. The prime minister elected the Secretary General for his outstanding leadership in the progress of world peace and stability, and recognized the UN efforts to improve global governance by amplifying the voice of developing nations.
The UN Secretary General expressed a lot of appreciation for how rescue and relief operations were carried out during recent floods in Pakistan. PM Shehbaz put a lot of emphasis on the need for joint action with respect to climate change. These actions include providing additional climatic finances to relieve the impact of climate change for the most vulnerable nations, such as Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted issues of national and regional vital importance for Pakistan, specifically the Jammu and Kashmir (Iiojk) of the Indians, and terrorism sponsored externally in Pakistan. He requested a fair and peaceful resolution of the IIOJK dispute in line with the resolutions of the Security Council. The prime minister praised the leadership of the Secretary General and genuine efforts to decline recent tensions between Pakistan and India.
Expressing a deep concern about the critical situation in Gaza, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for efforts to achieve immediate fire and put an end to war, provide humanitarian aid and create a political way towards an irreversible resolution that leads to Palestinian state.
Prime Minister Shehbaz echoed Pakistan’s commitment to promote his role as a member of the UN Security Council, and continue to be a voice for regional and international security and security.

The Secretary General praised the influential voice and the vital role of Pakistan in the UN, including his principles positions in the Security Council.
Prime Minister Shehbaz is currently in New York City to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Prime Minister, in his 25-minute speech in the UGA, covered all national, regional and international problems, including the recent Pakistan-India, Kashmir, Palestinian, terrorism, Afghanistan war, Afghanistan, flood ongoing in Pakistan and multilateralism.
