Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the headquarters of intelligence between services (ISI) on Tuesday, where he received detailed information about the country’s security position in the middle of high tensions with India.

Accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and the Chiefs of the Pakistan Armed Forces, the prime minister was informed about the prevailing regional security environment.

“The informative session focused on the preparation against conventional threats in the increasingly assertive position of India along the eastern border,” said a statement from Prime Minister’s office (PMO).

The statement said that leadership was also informed about the evolutionary threat matrix, including conventional military options, hybrid war and the use of representatives.

The delegation stressed the importance of greater national surveillance, coordination between agencies and operational preparation to respond to any threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his appreciation for the role of ISI in national security and praised the professionalism of the Armed Forces, reaffirming the state’s commitment to defend the country against all forms of threats.

The tensions between Pakistan and India reached new heights after a deadly attack on April 22 when 26 men were killed in a tourist site in Pahalgam, in Jammu and Cashmira illegally occupied (Iiojk). India quickly blamed Pakistan for the attack, but there were no evidence to support the claim, what Islamabad denied vehemence.

In response to the attack, the Indian Cabinet Security Committee approved several retaliation measures, including the closure of the Wagah-Attari land transit point, a travel advice that urges Indian citizens to avoid Pakistan, a formal notification of the suspension of the Indo Water Treaty and the revocation of multiple categories of visa for national visas for nationals.

On April 24, the National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan issued a severe warning, stating that any attempt by India to block the water flow in Pakistan would be considered an act of war. The NSC also approved the closure of the Wagah border crossing.
