Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari have reiterated their unwavering commitment to eliminate drug abuse and strengthen collective efforts to address the threat, emphasizing the importance of a united front to combat this generalized problem.
In their separate messages about the observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffic, both leaders asked for concerted efforts of all interested parties, including government institutions, civil society, the private sector and international partners, to eradicate the abuse of drugs of society.
Shehbaz, in his message, recognized the seriousness of the issue of drug abuse, recognizing the continuous efforts of the government to combat the threat.

He pointed out that although the government is fully aware of the challenges, the success of these efforts will ultimately depend on the collective resolution of people, society and the community in general.
He also stressed that drug abuse and trafficking are unacceptable not only in terms of Pakistan’s international obligations, but also in relation to the legal framework and social norms of the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed a deep respect for the agencies of application of the law, praising his sacrifices and tireless work to dismantle drug networks and guarantee a narcotics free Pakistan.

Meanwhile, President Zardari said that Pakistan remains firm in his fight against drug abuse and illicit traffic, underlining the important role played by the Antarcotic Force (ANF), which operates under the Ministry of Internal and Narcotic Control, to curb drug trafficking. He stressed that the government would continue to take strong measures to free the nation of these harmful practices.
Zardari also highlighted the need for greater awareness and education, particularly among young people, about the dangers of drug abuse. He asked citizens to join in efforts to eliminate drugs and contribute to creating a safer and more healthy society for future generations.
Both leaders expressed their gratitude for the agencies of application of the law, paying tribute to those who have lost their lives in the fight against drug abuse and traffic.
