PM to join Muslim leaders for joint conversations with Trump

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, together with the leaders from six Islamic countries, will meet with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Tuesday (tomorrow) outside the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said on Sunday.

Shehbaz will direct the Pakistan delegation in the Annual Session of the UNGA in New York from September 22 to 26. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Vice Prime Minister and Senator Senator Ishaq Dar, high ministers and senior officials according to the foreign office.

President Trump has invited Pakistan leaders, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (EAA), Indonesia and Egypt for a joint meeting, you learn. The Foreign Ministry said leaders “will exchange points of view on regional and international peace and security issues.”

Diplomatic sources told The Express PAkGazette that a separate bilateral meeting between Shehbaz and Trump is also under consideration. If it materializes, this will be the first direct interaction between the two leaders since Trump returned to the White House earlier this year.

The Prime Minister will go to the United Nations General Assembly on September 26. In his speech to the General Assembly, the prime minister will call the attention of the international community towards the serious crisis in Gaza, and ask that the action end the suffering of the Palestinians.

“The Prime Minister will urge the international community to resolve situations of prolonged occupation and the denial of the right to self -determination in India Jammu & Kashmir (Iiojk) and Palestine,” said the foreign office.

Also on Wednesday, the prime minister will attend a climate change session chaired by the UN Secretary General and then a debate on artificial intelligence that will be organized by the president of South Korea. According to the sources, during his stay, the prime minister can also meet with the prime ministers of China, Italy and Canada, the president of Iran, the EMIR of Qatar, the heads of the European Union and the World Bank, as well as the IMF managing director, although they have not yet been scheduled.

The authorities said that Shehbaz’s participation in the “largest annual meeting of world leaders” would reflect Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and provide a platform to highlight their long -standing contributions to the maintenance of peace, climate resilience and sustainable development.
